Frequently Asked Questions

1. What services do you perform? Where can we meet?

I provide individual intake and psychotherapy sessions to adults, ages 18+. Sessions may be held in-person or virtually. I do not work with minors or provide couples, family or group counseling at this time.

I see clients virtually through a secure and HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform (Simple Practice). Alternatively, we can meet in-person at my offices in La Crescenta or Pasadena. I hold office hours in La Crescenta on Thursdays from 9 AM - 3 PM and book clients at the Pasadena office upon request. You may use the auto-booking feature on this website to book a virtual or in-office session at the La Crescenta space. Please email me to coordinate appointments in Pasadena.

2. How long are sessions? How long will we work together?

Sessions are 45-minutes long. As such, it is important that you arrive on-time and ready to participate and engage in treatment. Ensure that you have completed all intake paperwork through the Simple Practice client portal prior to your intake appointment so that we do not have to use session time to do so. I use time in between sessions to record notes and transition myself to be fully present and prepared for the next client's session.

CBT and other evidenced-based practices are popular because they are effective and considerate of time (and personal budgets, by extension). Your individual treatment goals and session frequency will inform the length of treatment, which I make a commitment to establish with you within the first three sessions. Of course, if your treatment goals change or there are disruptions to our cadence, the length of time required to reach your original or modified treatment goals may be extended. We will discuss your timeline needs and goals together in our initial sessions.

Throughout our work together I will assess your progress towards your treatment goals. This includes self-report from you, use of outcome measurement data (e.g., GAD-7, PHQ-9), and my own clinical assessment. I commit to sharing the trajectory of your treatment goal journey and will address any stagnation, plateaus, or relapse with the appropriate intervention or referral.

After completion of the original treatment goal(s), clients often return to therapy on an as-needed basis.

3. Do you take insurance?

I am not independently paneled with any insurance companies. I am considered an out-of-network (OON) provider. I will provide you with a monthly superbill that you can submit for possible reimbursement, but you should first confirm OON reimbursement rates, requirements, and procedures with your insurer. I do not submit any paperwork, negotiate terms/rates, or collect copayments connected to having insurance.

4. Can Dr. Moore provide emotional support animal documentation?

I do not provide the service of emotional support animal documentation. While emotional support animals are useful in some situations, my approach is to help clients address emotional distress (e.g., fear, anxiety, sadness) without the use of as-needed external aids, like support animals or PRN medications (e.g., Ativan, Valium, Xanax, etc.)

That being said, I am aware that some individuals may require documentation for their emotional support animals in order to access certain accommodations, such as housing or air travel. While I do not provide this documentation myself, I can certainly discuss the potential benefits and drawbacks of emotional support animals with my clients and provide them with information about how to ensure they are engaging with a qualified mental health professional for the service.

It's important to note that the process for obtaining documentation for an emotional support animal can vary depending on the specific regulations and requirements of the organization or institution requiring it. I encourage individuals seeking such documentation to do their research and ensure they are obtaining it from a reputable source. Current client-practitioner requirements for emotional support animal documentation is quite specific and can be found on the California Board of Psychology website.

5. Do you perform diagnostic evaluations and/or write accommodation letters for work, school, etc.?

No, I do not perform diagnostic evaluations or write accomodation letters. This is a specialized area of practice that requires very specific training, testing tools, and setting-specific outputs. Depending on your needs, I may be able to provide you with referral resources to explore.

6. Can you prescribe me medication?

No, I am not licensed to prescribe medication. I can provide you trusted referrals to consult with if you are considering psychotropic medication in conjunction with therapy.

7. What is your cancellation policy?

Thank you for respecting my time, as I do yours. I require 48-hours notice of the need to cancel or reschedule. This allows me time to offer the opening to other clients seeking accommodation, or the in-person office space to a colleague who may need it. Failure to provide notice will result in a full session charge. I reserve the right to waive the late-cancelation/no-show fee on a case by case basis.
